Hi! My name is Cranky Jen

So first I would like to apologize for the cranky negative posts over the last few days. I try to be positive most of the time because I know cranky people can be a real joy-kill. Unfortunately my crankiness was unavoidable in this case.

So Sunday's 18 mile tune up proved to be a disaster for me. I went out there to run a strong 18 miles and wound up limping home after 10.  Yesterday I saw a doctor who basically told me nothing that I didn't already know. She had no answers except yes it's sciatica, take anti-inflammatory meds, get pt and wait. I asked her when I would be able to walk (yes, just walk) without pain and she said it could be a few days or a few months.  Really? I feel like bee has to be something that I can do.
Ouchie.
That said, where do I stand now. The marathon is in 38 days. Well, the truth is that I have no idea. My longest run was 16 miles two weeks ago.  I cannot walk without pain. To help the pain, I have acquired a limp and guess what, a limp is not sexy!! Honestly a pregnancy waddle is sexier than a limp.

So, I guess I wait and I try to manage my expectations and hope for the best? I am trying very hard not to be cranky here and at home but the truth is that running is the one thing that is just for me. The marathon really meant the world to me. And with this pain, I can't even work out at all.

Jen minus (Running + endorphins) = Cranky Jen

My boss suggested a deep tissue massage. I don't know that it will have any effect since it's a nerve not a muscle, but I'll try.  Besides I already have a Groupon for it!

**Please let me know if you have any suggestions for your own experience.  I'm willing to try anything.  When do I have to face facts and realize this isn't going to happen- because I am so not ready to do that yet.

To make up for my negativity, here's a shot of my mini-mes this morning. They were up early so they had a little tv time before leaving for school.
Don't they look like models?  It looks like a mini-Guess ad.

  1. I never had sciatica, but graston really helped my tendonitis. I just googled and found this place http://livingwellnewyork.com/custom_content/c_1085_graston_technique.html

    Maybe?

I want you to get better!

  2. @SM - Thanks for the suggestion. Believe me. I want to get better too! That graston looks scary though. The "instruments" look like some Medieval torture technique.
    lol
